How to budget for your holiday/travel ?

Back with our WhiteCollarTravellers version of #MondayMotivation. As mentioned last time we decided, every Monday – we will be sharing a few tips and tricks that help us travel.

How to budget for your holiday/travel ?

💛💛💛
1. Budget big expenses first – flights, hotels, visa, inter-city travel (trains, ferries, etc) These are usually standards for every trip and is around 60% of the total expense. If planned well in advance you can save up and get good deals. Use price comparison websites for good deals on flights and hotels. As a standard we book our tickets and hotels minimum 3 – 4 months in advance and always go for refundable options just in case needed.

2. Daily Expenses – we follow a standard rule of 100 Euros per day (as a couple) when in Europe. So 10 days means 1000 Euros. This includes food, tours, local transportation, souvenir shopping! Easier to manage on a day to day basis and we know when we are going off-budget! As a practice do google and get a broad sense of how expensive the country and budget accordingly!

3. Keep some amount for the occasional and much-needed splurge – fancy meal during the trip or an expensive activity (say sky diving in New Zealand) or wine tasting tours!

💛💛💛
4. Have a broad budget in mind. Through our travels – a 10 day trip in Europe costs us 3 Lac INR per couple all-inclusive (This is shoulder season budget – another 30-40 K if traveling during peak season). We use this as a base and plan accordingly.

Just FYI – We are not backpackers or into luxury travel, we are budget travelers who prefer to stay at unique boutique hotels or B&B’s.
